Early Edge MT

The Missoula Area Chamber of Commerce supports Early Edge MT, a universal, voluntary, mixed-delivery and publicly funded pre-K program.

About Early Edge MT:

  • All four year olds will be eligible.
  • The program is voluntary, both for children and for school districts.  
  • Participating school districts may partner with existing local preschools, Head Start programs, and other providers within or outside school district facilities. 
  • There will be accreditation and licensure standards. 
  • Cost of the program is $37M over the next biennium.

The Case for Early Edge MT:

  • 42 other states have a state-funded pre-K program.
  • Benefits employers, current workforce, and future workforce (children).
    • Children who attend pre-K do better in school and in life.
    • Parents miss less work.
    • Montana is more competitive at retaining and attracting jobs.
    • Benefits society and taxpayers over the long term.
